The rocky shores near Davenport, California are a wonderful place to spend some quality outdoor time. Their rugged beauty mixed with the sights and sounds of the Pacific ocean make for some beautiful scenery.
Storm Over Natural Bridges
Well after sunset, the purple and blue hues of twilight filled the cloudy sky. The clouds flowed with the prevailing winds as the natural arch at Natural Bridges reflected in the sand.
While along the rugged and scenic central California coast, the storm broke at sunset. Streams of rain, or virga, lit up with colorful reds and oranges as wave from the Pacific ocean crashed onshore.
Simple Sunset by the Sea
Some evenings along the coast are simply spent watching the waves from the Pacific ocean wash ashore. The central California coast offers plenty of secluded and sandy beaches for enjoying the salty air and sounds of the sea.
Second Beach Tides
The outgoing tide at Second Beach flows out to sea towards a tree topped sea stack. The moody dark skies and rugged coastal landscape worked well in black and white. The smooth and textured contrasts of the shore complement each other so well.
Puffin Foraging #3
While exploring the eastern fjords of Iceland, I came across a nesting ground for Atlantic puffins. These seabirds were foraging in the morning light as well as resting, and vocalizing.

I spent hours in eastern Iceland photographing the Atlantic puffins. They would forage at sea and return to their nests in the early morning.

I never get tired of photographing giant kelp underwater. The golden blades and smooth bulbs create amazing contrasts and patterns.

Atlantic Puffins at Sunrise
Nestled in the eastern fjords of Iceland, is a nesting area for Atlantic puffins. One magical morning, I came across this place at random. But I was thrilled to have close access to these beautiful birds as they foraged for food.

Nesting puffins in eastern Iceland were a highlight of my first visit to this beautiful country. Arriving just after sunrise, these little birds would fly to sea to catch krill and fish.
The badlands at Zabriskie Point in Death Valley are truly amazing. I was fortunate to photograph them under fiery skies one sunrise in winter.
Blue Striped Grunts
While SCUBA diving on the tropical island of Cozumel, Mexico, I encountered this school of blue striped grunts. Their yellow bodies contrasted beautifully with the blue waters of this tropical reef system along the Yucatan peninsula.

The structures of Cozumel's tropical reefs along the Yucatan Peninsula are full of overhangs, spires, and arches like the one in this photo. The biodiversity supported by these reef structures makes this island one of the best for SCUAB diving in all the caribbean.
Rise to the Light
Large gorgonian sea fans, a type of colonial cnidarian, filter feed the nutrient rich waters off the tropical island of Couzmel. This reef system is one of the most beautiful along the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico.

Sailor Lake Sunrise Reflections
After camping nearby, I awoke to a clear yet calm morning up in the John Muir Wilderness. The lake was as smooth as glass and the reflections of the craggy granite of Picture Peak were simply beautiful.
Eye of the Parrotfish
While night diving in Cozumel, Mexico, a tropical island in the Caribbean, I phtoographed this sleeping green parrotfish. Using my close up macro lens, I was able to get this detailed view of its eye.
While SCUBA diving on the tropical island of Cozumel, Mexico, I encountered this beautiful gorgonion sea fan. I used my circular fisheye lens to compose it while shooting up into the tropical blue water.
Wharariki beach is at the extreme northwest end of New Zealand's south island. It features two amazing archway islands just offshore the long stretch of sandy beach. During sunset, the sky's reflections in the sand made for a beautiful photo.
Brúarfoss Glacial Waterfall
Brúarfoss, or bridge waterfall is a beautiful location to visit and photograph in southern Iceland. The blue, glacial waters spill into a wonderful cascade with dark, volcanic rock surrounding it.
Icelandic Horse at Kirkjufell
One moring while out photographing along the Snaefellsnes peninsula near Kirkjufell, the sun broke through the clouds. Once it did, the landscape, and this horse, were bathed in golden light.
Hraunfossar in Fall
The autumn season is short lived almost anywhere, including Iceland. I was happy to catch a nice window of fall color while traveling to Iceland in September with some of the best views at Hraunfossar. Iceland's landscapes are amazing on their own, but with the autumn hues, it was spectacular.
Power of Dettifoss
Dettifoss is a waterfall in Vatnajökull National Park in Northeast Iceland, and is reputed to be the most powerful waterfall in Europe. The water comes from the nearby Vatnajökull glacier, whose sediment-rich runoff colors the water a greyish white. The superlative of "most powerful" comes from its water flow times its fall distance. The water of the wide River Jökulsá falls for more than 144 feet, causing a massive, crashing spray.
