Mount Shuksan Sunset Reflections
The post sunset glow of twilight intensified over Mount Shuksan in the North Cascades. As it faded into a lavendar blue, I photographed the near perfect reflections in Picture Lake.
Panther Creek Falls
One autumn day, I found my way to Panther Creek Falls in southern Washington. It was raining, and I had been driving many hours. After a quick nap, the rain let up, and I made my way down the mossy green slopes to get nice and close to the rushing cascades.
Palouse Gold and Blue
The complimentary color contrast of gold and blue is on full display here. A canola, or rapeseed, field near Colfax in eastern Washington sits still beneath a big blue sky filled with puffy clouds.
Second Beach Tides
The outgoing tide at Second Beach flows out to sea towards a tree topped sea stack. The moody dark skies and rugged coastal landscape worked well in black and white. The smooth and textured contrasts of the shore complement each other so well.
Space Needle and Seattle Skyline Sunrise
Two days after creating a panorama of the city from Kerry Park, I returned for another spectacular sunrise. I focused here on the best morning color and the Space Needle with the Seattle skyline.
A field of yellow wildflowers and the first light of sunrise on Steptoe Butte State Park in eastern Washington. While exploring the rural landscape near Palouse, I wandered up a hillside to find this patch of flowers leading myeye towards Steptoe Butte. As the sun came up, the light shined birghtly on the grassy butte.
Vestiges of Autumn
The seasonal changes in Washington state can be swift and fleeting. As autumn turns to winter, the some trees lose their leaves as others still hold on to the last traces of color. Outside of Leavenworth, the evening mist created a dreamy scene with a roadside forest.
Golden Flower Fields
While photographing the rural landscapes of eastern Washington, I found a nice field of yellow wildflowers. They glowed with the morning sun, soaking up its warmth.
Palouse Falls Sunset
Palouse Falls in eastern Washington drops deep into vertical walls of the river canyon. The pink and purple glow of twilight after sunset made for a serene scene.
Sol Duc Cascade
The spring season offers beautiful greens in the forests of Olympic National Park. on the trail to Sol Duc Falls, I stopped to photograph this cascade with the forest as a backdrop.
Steptoe Butte Sunset

Picture Lake and Mount Shuksan Sunset Panorama
On this summer evening, the water was stilla t Picture Lake in the North Cascades. Mount Shuksan was fully lit by the last glimpes of sunset and reflected beautifully below. I photographed this panorama to remember the serenity of the scenery.
Early Morning Light
As the sun crested the distant hills, light spilled over the land and onto the wheat fields just below Steptoe Butte. The back lit wheat simply glows with this early morning light
Seattle Skyline Panorama at Sunrise
Kerry Park in Queen Anne gives an amazing view of the Seattle skyline, and if you are lucky, Mount Rainier in the distance. On this winter morning, the sunrise balanced perfectly with the panoramic view ahead.
Morning Light on the Palouse
While leading a workshop to the Plaouse region in eastern Washington back in June, I snapped a few frames on the final sunset because the light was too good to resist. The way the light and shadows play on the hills reminds me of sand dunes in Death Valley.
Steptoe Butte and Palouse River Sunset Panorama
One of the best sunsets I experienced while in eastern Washington was when I photographed the Palouse River leading off towards Steptoe Butte. The sky filled with amazing color as far as the eye could see. I made this panorama to try and capture it all.
While driving around eastern Washington, I couldn't resist photographing this field of wheat as the sun beamed behind a cumulus cloud. The contrasts worked well converting into black and white.
The rural landscapes of eastern Washington are filled with smooth, rolling hills of manicured farm lands. As a spring thunder storm passes through at sunset, I photographed the beams of light from Steptoe Butte
The rolling spring time wheat fields catch the golden glow of sunset along a back road of eastern Washington. This area, commonly called the Palouse, is full of rural landscapes filled with old americana.
Big Skies Over Canola
Outside of Colfax in the Palouse region of eastern Washington, the spring harvest of Canola shine golden under a big sky of cumulus clouds.
The agricultural farmlands of eastern Washington are quite photgenic. The fields of wheat can become a study on soft and sharp details when using just enough depth of field.
Palouse Rainbow #1
While the rain let up, I was driving to photograph sunset. A rainbow appeared so strong and vivid, the goal became simply to find a location to photograph it.
Canola Field of Dreams
Just outside of Colfax, I found a field full of canola, or rapeseed. The golden flowers were so fragrant and vivid. As the clouds passed by through the blue sky, there was no place I would rather have been.
