Hraunfossar in Fall
The autumn season is short lived almost anywhere, including Iceland. I was happy to catch a nice window of fall color while traveling to Iceland in September with some of the best views at Hraunfossar. Iceland's landscapes are amazing on their own, but with the autumn hues, it was spectacular.
The elegant and delicate nature of jellies continues to capture my attention and interest while SCUBA diving the emerald green waters of the Monterey Bay. These gracefal cnidarians, the sea nettles, often come in to the near shore in numbers, drifting with the current.
Intentional camera movement produces an abtract view of a tree farm in eastern Orgeon. The golden hues of autumn shine brightly in the early morning light.
Blue Striped Grunts
While SCUBA diving on the tropical island of Cozumel, Mexico, I encountered this school of blue striped grunts. Their yellow bodies contrasted beautifully with the blue waters of this tropical reef system along the Yucatan peninsula.
The beautiful geology found in the Painted Hills of central Oregon are quite striking. The ancient remains of volcanic activity exhibit a smooth, painterly quality which makes them a very photogenic landscape and perfect for intimate detailed scenes.
Picture Peak Sunset
While exploring the eastern fjords of Iceland, I came across a nesting ground for Atlantic puffins. These seabirds were foraging in the morning light as well as resting, and vocalizing.
Aldeyjarfoss is a little off the beaten path in northern Iceland. But it's sheer beauty is up there as one of Iceland's best waterfalls. During my first visit, Aldeyjarfoss had a beuatiful sunset open up above it for a few brief moments.
Motukiekie Wild Sunset
Motukiekie beach is a rugged coastal wilderness. I visited three times while traveling in New Zealand and never saw another person. On thie evening, the sunset grew in intensity as the waves ferosciously raced past me.
Second Beach Tides
The outgoing tide at Second Beach flows out to sea towards a tree topped sea stack. The moody dark skies and rugged coastal landscape worked well in black and white. The smooth and textured contrasts of the shore complement each other so well.
While SCUBA diving on the tropical island of Cozumel, Mexico, I encountered this beautiful gorgonion sea fan. I used my circular fisheye lens to compose it while shooting up into the tropical blue water.
Mount Sefton Sunrise
Early one morning, I photographed this stretch of the river flowing out of Mueller Lake beneath Mount Sefton. The clouds glowed pink only for a minute, but the scene was set.
Underwater Arch in Cozumel
The structures of Cozumel's tropical reefs along the Yucatan Peninsula are full of overhangs, spires, and arches like the one in this photo. The biodiversity supported by these reef structures makes this island one of the best for SCUAB diving in all the caribbean.
Atlantic Puffins at Sunrise
Nestled in the eastern fjords of Iceland, is a nesting area for Atlantic puffins. One magical morning, I came across this place at random. But I was thrilled to have close access to these beautiful birds as they foraged for food.
Panther Creek Falls
One autumn day, I found my way to Panther Creek Falls in southern Washington. It was raining, and I had been driving many hours. After a quick nap, the rain let up, and I made my way down the mossy green slopes to get nice and close to the rushing cascades.
The badlands at Zabriskie Point in Death Valley are truly amazing. I was fortunate to photograph them under fiery skies one sunrise in winter.
Palouse Rainbow #1
While the rain let up, I was driving to photograph sunset. A rainbow appeared so strong and vivid, the goal became simply to find a location to photograph it.
Mountain Mood of the Sierra
While heading home from the eastern Sierra, the subdued moody light on Wheeler Crest required me to pull over and snap a few photos. The craggy mountain ridges with the low clouds made for a beautiful scene.
The Art of Kelp III
I never get tired of photographing giant kelp underwater. The golden blades and smooth bulbs create amazing contrasts and patterns.

The fall colors at the Boardman Tree Farm are a sight to behold, a beautiful scene to wander into.
Sea of Caribbean Dreams
Cozumel is a SCUBA diving paradise. Located along the Yucatan Peninsula in the Caribbean, Cozumel's tropical reefs are full of color and biodiversity. The corals are some of the best you can find.
Waves rush past chunks of ice along the black sand beach of Jökulsárlón. The golden glow of sunset fades on the horizon of Iceland's south coast.
Space Needle and Seattle Skyline Sunrise
Two days after creating a panorama of the city from Kerry Park, I returned for another spectacular sunrise. I focused here on the best morning color and the Space Needle with the Seattle skyline.
20 Lakes Basin Sunset
The Sierra Nevada mountains offer amazing landscape scenery. In the 20 Lakes Basin near Mammoth, the sunset glows with golden light in the monsoon clouds during summer.
Icelandic Horse at Kirkjufell
One moring while out photographing along the Snaefellsnes peninsula near Kirkjufell, the sun broke through the clouds. Once it did, the landscape, and this horse, were bathed in golden light.
Shadows of Iceland
The rugged south coastof Iceland is full of amazing landscapes. The rocky shores are contrasting with the misty ocean with distant mountains under a moody sky.
Sailor Lake Sunrise Reflections
After camping nearby, I awoke to a clear yet calm morning up in the John Muir Wilderness. The lake was as smooth as glass and the reflections of the craggy granite of Picture Peak were simply beautiful.
The Lost Forest
The trees here will be gone someday soon. The Boardman tree farm will give way to cows and irrigation crops. I am grateful for being able to see it in its fall color beauty at least once in my life.
