Land of the Rising Moon
I used a red LED flashlight to illuminate the face of this granite arch in Joshua Tree National Park. When the full moon rose, I positioned my camera so that it was peaking through an opening. Featured in the October 2010 issue of National Geographic.
Hanging in the Balance
An oblong rock and juniper tree frame the moon in this high desert landscape image from Joshua Tree National Park. The soft light of post sunset fills the cloudless sky of summer in one of California's most unique national parks.
Leaves of the Joshua Tree
Layers of color are revealed when blurring the details of a scene using a macro lens. Here, blades from a Joshua Tree are offset by the warm granite and blue sky behind them.
While photographing the night sky full of stars and a crescent moon, I light painted some ocotillo cactus. Joshua Tree National Park has a myriad of beautiful high desert landscapes to explore.
Spiny needles from a red barrel cactus mix with blurred light in Joshua Tree National Park.
Three of a Kind
While stopping in the high desert landscape national park of Joshua Tree in southern California, I stopped by this lone rock and juniper tree to do some night photography. The moon was out and I used a speedlight to paint the eartly based objects with light to balance the photograph.
Under the Rising Moon
Needles from a red barrel cactus form an intricate array of details both sharp and soft in this nature macro photograph.
Full Moon Under Arch Rock
Lightpainting and natural moon light mix to make this landscape image of arch rock in Joshua Tree National Park.
The Moon, Sky, and the Wizard's Eye
Near Arch Rock, lies this rock formation which I think looks like a wizard's hat. I used a small LED flaslight to light the rocks under the full moon.
