Early morning light is contrasted against the dark patterns of the Mesquite Sand Dunes in Death Valley National Park. I used a long exposure to show the cloud movement and converted this image to black and white to emphasis the relationships of light and dark as well as showcase the textures and patterns in the sand.

The expansive desert landscape of Death Valley includes the Mesquite Sand Dunes near Stove Pipe Wells. Despite the harsh conditions here, there are signs of life like these tracks in the sand.
