New Year's Day 2011 starts off right with an amazing display of color over the Badwater salt flats in Death Valley National Park. Recent rains flooded the valley creating the temporary Lake Manly.
On my second trip to Death Valley, I visited the Mesquite Sand Dunes at sunset for the first time. Knowing it was a popular locaton for photographers at sunrise, I was unsure what to expect. I was not disappointed as the clouds received a golden glow to compliment the dunes.
A pre-sunrise long exposure captures the movement in the clouds, creating streaks which mimic the repeating patterns of the Mesquite Sand Dunes of Death Valley National Park.
