The tafoni sandstone along the central California coast comes in a variety of textures and patterns. The soft curves and shapes of this sandstone near Pescadero State Beach caught my eye.
The erosion of manganese minerals in the coastal bluffs at Pfeiffer Beach in Big Sur, California creates purple colored sand ont he beach. This photo shows the branching patterns and different shades of this unique beach.
The central California shoreline contains a vast array of interesting geology. At Natural Bridges State Beach, there are shale and sandstone rock shelves which contain unique and abstract patterns and fine details.
