Death Valley's Amargosa Range is full of interesting geology with a myriad of colors and patterns. At sunset, the hills light up with a golden glow along the Badwater Basin.
The tafoni sandstone along the central California coast comes in a variety of textures and patterns. The soft curves and shapes of this sandstone near Pescadero State Beach caught my eye.
The erosion of manganese minerals in the coastal bluffs at Pfeiffer Beach in Big Sur, California creates purple colored sand ont he beach. This photo shows the branching patterns and different shades of this unique beach.
